How to Integrate the LED Mask into Your Skincare Routine for Better Results
Share
The LED mask is a powerful tool, but like any active treatment, its results largely depend on how it is integrated into your routine. Using it at the wrong time or with the wrong products can reduce its effectiveness or, in some cases, cause sensitisation.
When to use the mask in your routine
The LED mask is used on clean, makeup-free skin, preferably after the first cleansing step. This order matters:
- Double cleanse (if you're wearing makeup) or gentle cleanse with gel/foam
- Toner or hydrating essence (optional, to make the LED session more comfortable)
- LED Mask — 15–20 minutes
- Active serum (vitamin C, retinol, niacinamide...)
- Moisturiser and SPF (if in the morning)
The reason for applying actives after the LED: the gentle warmth generated by the mask dilates pores and improves skin permeability, increasing the absorption of active ingredients applied afterwards. This is the photo-iontophoresis effect.
Morning or evening: when is better?
In the morning: blue or cyan are good options to activate the skin before makeup. Yellow improves radiance and a rested appearance.
In the evening: this is the optimal time for red and infrared. The skin enters repair mode during sleep, and LED stimulation enhances this process.
If you can only do one session a day, evening has the greatest cumulative effectiveness.
Compatible actives and actives to avoid during the session
Compatible (use after LED):
- Hyaluronic acid and hydrating actives: perfect, they absorb better
- Niacinamide: enhanced with green light
- Vitamin C: red light increases antioxidant effectiveness
- Retinol: apply at night only, after the session
Avoid during (not on skin while using the mask):
- AHAs/BHAs (exfoliating acids): increase photosensitivity; apply only afterwards
- Retinol on very reactive skin: may create an excessive heat sensation combined with LED
- Pure essential oils: can cause reactions with the light
Frequency and progression
Weeks 1–2 (start): 2–3 sessions per week of 15 minutes for skin to adjust.
Weeks 3–6 (intensive): 4–5 sessions per week for maximum stimulation.
Maintenance (from month 2 onwards): 2–3 sessions per week are enough to consolidate and maintain results.
"I'm an aesthetician and I've been using LED in my treatments for years. When I saw the mask, I compared it with the professional devices we use in the cabin. The light distribution is very even and the temperature is correct. My advice: use it after your vitamin C serum in the morning. The radiance results are very good."

What not to expect
LED is not an acid or a laser. You won't see results overnight. What you will see with consistency:
- More even and radiant skin from the first week
- Reduction of active acne in 3–4 weeks
- Improvement of fine lines in 6–8 weeks
- More unified tone and less visible pores in 4–6 weeks
