Complete Guide: How to Use the Curlmate Step by Step for Perfect Curls
Share
Before you start: prepare your hair
For the best results with the Curlmate, always start with clean, completely dry hair. Heat on damp hair can cause irreparable damage.
- Wash and dry your hair completely before curling
- Apply heat protectant from roots to ends
- Detangle thoroughly with a natural bristle brush
- Divide hair into sections of 2–3 cm thickness
Step 1: choose the right temperature
The Curlmate offers 6 temperature levels between 150°C and 200°C:
- 150–160°C — Fine, colour-treated, or very damaged hair
- 170–180°C — Normal or highlighted hair
- 190–200°C — Thick, curly, or very coarse hair
Step 2: insert the section
Place the section in the opening of the Curlmate. The device will automatically curl it into the ceramic barrel. Keep the styler in a vertical position.
Step 3: wait 8–12 seconds
- 8 seconds — Soft, natural waves
- 10 seconds — Classic defined curls
- 12 seconds — Tight, long-lasting curls
Step 4: release and set
Release the section and, if you want longer-lasting results, hold the curl in the palm of your hand for 5 seconds while it cools. This sets the curl and makes it more resilient.
Step 5: the finish
Once all sections are curled, gently run your fingers through to separate the curls. Apply a few drops of hair oil for shine and definition.
Extra tips
- Always curl in the same direction within each section
- Don't touch the curls until they are completely cool
- Use a light-hold hairspray for longer-lasting results
